Rescue workers in Mykolaiv received equipment worth hundreds of thousands of euros from Switzerland

Volunteers from Switzerland brought humanitarian aid to Mykolaiv for medical workers and rescue personnel. The total value of the donated equipment, supplies, and firefighting gear exceeds 200,000 euros.

Kevin Saner, president of the Swiss charitable foundation Humanitarian Assistance Switzerland, delivered the aid to the city for the fourth time. He previously worked as a firefighter, so he has a good understanding of the needs of rescue workers.

This time, rescue units in the Mykolaiv, Kherson, and Kropyvnytskyi regions will receive the aid. Part of the shipment will also be delivered to four hospitals in Mykolaiv.

According to Saner, the firefighting boots alone brought this time are worth about 190,000 Swiss francs, and the total value of the aid is approximately 220,000 francs.

The organizers of the aid effort note that the shipment is not put together at random. Volunteers first collect specific requests from hospitals and rescue units, after which Swiss partners either source the necessary equipment from their own partners or purchase it.

Particular attention is paid to ensuring that the equipment meets the needs of specific personnel—in particular, they select the correct sizes for shoes and clothing.

For rescue workers in Kherson, this aid is of practical importance in their daily work. Andriy Zaluzhny, head of the Kherson City Engineering Emergency and Rescue Service, noted that the equipment will be used during emergency recovery operations, cleanup efforts following Russian shelling, debris removal, and evacuations.

Medical facilities also received necessary supplies. In particular, the perinatal department of the regional clinical hospital received surgical masks used during childbirth and surgeries.

This was the first aid shipment from the Swiss foundation to this medical facility.

This is Kevin Saner’s second visit to Mykolaiv this year. According to him, the next trip with a humanitarian shipment is planned for October.

Thus, the aid from Swiss partners is directed not only to Mykolaiv but also to the rescue workers and emergency services in Kherson, who work daily in frontline conditions and deal with the aftermath of Russian attacks.
