Mykolaiv region: Military to be tried for passing coordinates to AFU

A 33-year-old reserve company serviceman accused of illegally disseminating information about the location of the Armed Forces of Ukraine will be tried in Mykolaiv region.
This was reported by the Mykolaiv Specialized Defense Prosecutor's Office of the Southern Region.
According to the investigation, in January 2026, the man contacted an unidentified person using an account called "Zlata" via Telegram. The interlocutor allegedly purposefully collected information about the location of the military unit where the accused served.
Investigators found that the soldier had twice transmitted the coordinates of the temporary location of his unit. For accurate targeting, he sent markers with a link to Google maps.
The prosecutor's office emphasizes that this data was not published in the public domain by the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine or the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, and the man himself was aware that the information could be used by the Russian military for missile or artillery strikes.
Law enforcement officers exposed the actions of the accused in time.
Currently, the indictment has been sent to the Bratsk District Court of Mykolaiv region. The man is charged with Part 2 of Art. 114-2 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine - unauthorized dissemination of information about the location of the Armed Forces.
He faces up to eight years in prison.
The pre-trial investigation was conducted by investigators of the SBU Office in Mykolaiv region.
At the same time, according to Article 62 of the Constitution of Ukraine, a person is presumed innocent until proven guilty in court by a guilty verdict.
Recently, in Mykolaiv region, law enforcement officers detained a serviceman suspected of selling humanitarian off-road vehicles intended for the needs of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. According to investigators, the man put up for sale three vehicles imported to Ukraine as humanitarian aid for the army and received over $13,000 for them.
In April, a court in Mykolaiv sentenced a member of the National Guard of Ukraine who sold cars imported as humanitarian aid for the frontline. Despite the seriousness of the crime and the significant amount of money involved, the defendant avoided actual imprisonment.
