In the Odesa region, a man doused an acquaintance with gasoline and set her on fire

In the Odesa region, a court sentenced a 36-year-old man to 11 years in prison for dousing an acquaintance with gasoline and setting her on fire during an argument. The woman suffered burns over 21% of her body.

This was reported by the Odesa Regional Police.

The incident occurred in August 2025 in one of the villages of the Vyhodia community in the Odesa District. The woman had gone to visit an acquaintance, where they were drinking alcohol together. An argument broke out between them during the gathering.

According to the investigation, the man doused the guest with gasoline from a brushcutter’s fuel tank and set her on fire with a match.

The woman ran out of the house. Local residents helped her put out the fire and called an ambulance. The victim was hospitalized and diagnosed with thermal burns covering 21% of her body.

Police detained the man, and the court ordered him to be held in custody as a preventive measure. During the investigation, law enforcement officials conducted a series of forensic examinations and gathered evidence.

The man was charged with attempted murder committed with particular cruelty—under Part 2 of Article 15 and Paragraph 4 of Part 2 of Article 115 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.

The court found him guilty and sentenced him to 11 years in prison. The defendant pleaded guilty and expressed remorse.

Recently, a man who carried out arson attacks in the Chernihiv and Odesa regions was sentenced to 15 years in prison. Among the Russian agent’s primary targets were energy infrastructure facilities and government buildings.
