In Mykolaiv, a criminal investigation is underway into alleged extortion of bribes in exchange for removing conscripts from the territorial recruitment center’s wanted list. According to investigators, the suspect in the case may have received a total of $15,000 from one of the complainants.

This is stated in a ruling by the Central District Court of Mykolaiv.

The man was detained on August 13, and the following day he was notified that he was suspected of receiving an unlawful benefit. According to the investigation, he demanded between $5,000 and $10,000 from individuals of draft age.

The case file indicates that one of the witnesses reported being extorted and handing over a total of $15,000 to the suspect. Specifically, on August 2, she gave him $5,000, which law enforcement officials had previously identified. During his arrest, $10,000 was also seized from the man.

Investigators are examining the possible involvement of other individuals in the scheme. In particular, witnesses who were questioned stated that a representative of one of the companies allegedly helped the men who had been hired to resolve issues related to having their names removed from the wanted list after paying fines. Law enforcement officials are also investigating the circumstances surrounding the fact that several men subject to military service were on the wanted list and were subsequently removed from the relevant registry.

Planned investigative actions include reviewing data from the “Oberig” registry, documents from the Territorial Military Commissariat, the results of computer forensic analyses, and records of covert investigative operations.

The court granted the investigator’s motion and extended the term of the pretrial investigation through December 14, 2026.
