A secretary of the occupation election commission will stand trial in the Kherson region

A resident of Novoraysk in the Kherson region will stand trial for participating in a Russian pseudo-referendum during the occupation of the village. After the de-occupation, she went into hiding to evade investigation, but law enforcement officials located her and detained her in the Dnipropetrovsk region.
This was reported by the Kherson Regional Prosecutor’s Office.
According to the investigation, in September 2022, the woman agreed to cooperate with representatives of the occupying authorities and became the secretary of an illegal “polling station election commission.”
From September 23 to 27, she, along with other participants, organized and conducted a sham referendum on the alleged annexation of the Kherson region to Russia.
In particular, the woman, together with Russian military personnel, went door-to-door to local residents’ homes, urged them to participate in the illegal vote, and ensured its conduct. Ballots and transparent ballot boxes bearing Russian Federation symbols were used for this purpose.
After Novoraysk was liberated from Russian occupation, the woman went into hiding to evade investigation. Law enforcement officers located her and detained her in the Dnipropetrovsk region.
The defendant is currently in custody and awaiting trial.
She is charged with collaboration under Part 2 of Article 28 and Part 5 of Article 111-1 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The penalty under these provisions includes imprisonment for five to ten years, a ban on holding certain positions or engaging in certain activities for a period of ten to fifteen years, and the possible confiscation of property.
