A court has imposed a measure of restraint in the form of nightly house arrest on a kindergarten teacher from Bilhorod-Dnistrovskyi district of Odesa region suspected of torturing a child.

The woman no longer works at the kindergarten, the press service of the Main Department of the National Police in Odesa Oblast reported.

According to the investigation, the 48-year-old teacher of the institution used physical violence against a 6-year-old pupil. The incident occurred when the boy refused to comply with a request to dress warmer in a cold room. In response, the woman hit the child and tried to force him to get dressed.

Based on the evidence collected, investigators of the territorial police unit under the procedural guidance of the district prosecutor's office notified the defendant of suspicion of torture, i.e. any intentional act aimed at causing severe physical pain and mental suffering to a person, committed in order to force him to perform actions against his will, as well as to punish him for his actions.

If found guilty of torture, the woman faces imprisonment for a term of three to six years.

In September 2025, police investigators sent to court the case of two teenagers from the Bilhorod-Dnistrovskyi district of Odesa region who were detained in June for bullying and beating a 12-year-old boy.

In the first four months of 2025, 130 cases of bullying were recorded in Ukraine, 50% more than in the same period last year. On average, the police draw up 32 reports per month. More than half of the violations last year were committed by teenagers aged 14 to 16 or younger. In 2021, they accounted for only 44% of cases, and now they account for 58%.
