A 5-kilometer run was held in Odessa in memory of Demyan Hanul

The second charity run in memory of activist Demyan Hanul took place in Odesa. About 40 participants completed the five-kilometer course. The event was also dedicated to the memory of Ukrainian military personnel and civilians who died as a result of the war.
Zhanna Voznyuk, the wife of the deceased, spoke to Intent about this.
“This is the second run, and traditionally we time it to coincide with Demyan’s birthday, but today we are remembering all those who died in the war—both military personnel and civilians,” she noted.
The run was a charity event. The organizers raised funds for navigation systems for their friends in the Special Operations Forces (SOF).
According to Zhanna Voznyuk, about 40 participants took part in the run this time, each of whom covered five kilometers.
As a reminder, Demyan Hanula was killed on March 14, 2025, in downtown Odesa. According to the investigation, the assailant fired several shots at the victim, then fired a final shot to the head and fled the scene of the crime.
The assailant was identified as Senior LieutenantSerhiy Shalaevof the Armed Forces of Ukraine, whom the courtfound guilty of intentional murder committed on contract for financial gain, illegal handling of weapons, and failure to report for duty during martial law. The verdict has not yet become final. The parties have the right to appeal it within 30 days of the date of the verdict.
Hanul was a well-known public figure, blogger, and leader of the “Street Front” organization. From 2014 to 2016, he headed the “Right Sector” security unit in Odesa. Ganul actively participated in the Revolution of Dignity and the clashes on May 2, 2014, opposing pro-Russian forces.
