Trukhanov talks about Odesa during the war: beaches, MPs abroad and elections

Odesa Mayor Gennadiy Trukhanov spoke about the work of the city authorities during the war, the accessibility of beaches for citizens, and staffing problems at enterprises. He also commented on relations with the regional authorities and the situation with deputies who do not attend sessions.
The mayor spoke about this and other issues in an interview with Suspilne. Odesa.
Odesa Mayor Hennadiy Trukhanov gave an interview to Suspilne TV channel, in which he spoke about the work of the city authorities during the war, relations with the regional administration, and current problems of the city. He touched upon the work of the mayor's office during the air alert, strengthening the civil defense system, support for the Armed Forces, and staff shortages at enterprises due to mobilization.
The mayor also spoke about the accessibility of beaches for Odesa residents. According to him, last year some tenants started building fences on the sand, limiting free access to the sea.
Trukhanov also noted that the mayor's office is responding to these cases and strives to provide free access to 30% of the beach and a five-meter strip of water.
"I would like to return to my childhood when all the beaches were open," the mayor said.
He added that the Odesa Coast utility company is working on cleaning and organizing the beaches, but currently has limited funds due to the city's defense needs.
The official also touched upon the issue of deputies who are abroad and have not surrendered their mandate. He called on such deputies to give up their seats so that active community members could take their place.
Separately, the mayor commented on his relationship with the head of the Odesa Regional State Administration, Oleh Kiper, noting that working issues are being resolved constructively.
"There are working issues, and we each express our opinions. But we have to be together because the public is looking at us," Trukhanov said.
The mayor of Odesa confirmed that he plans to run for mayor again. He emphasized his dedication to the city and his constant work despite the war.
Among the strategic problems that need attention, Trukhanov mentioned the Khadzhibey Dam, which is an important route to the southern port, as well as emergency buildings, including the college at 25 Troitska Street, where trolleybus traffic has been stopped for years. The mayor called for joint efforts by the authorities and the public to resolve these issues.
Also recently, a large-scale scheme was exposed in Odesa at two municipal enterprises: managers registered fictitious employees to avoid mobilization and misappropriation of funds. The mayor promised to check all city utilities and bring the perpetrators to justice.
