The Tairov community in Odesa Oblast proposes to install a bust of Donald Trump and name a street in his honor.
According to Danylo Topolnitsky, a deputy of the Tairovo community, one of the community members registered an official appeal to the local council with a proposal to honor US President Donald Trump.
The document contains a request to
- to install a bust of Donald Trump in the Tairove arboretum;
- to name one of the streets of the community after him;
- to grant Trump the title of honorary citizen of Tairove.
The author of the appeal argues that his initiative is "a significant contribution of the American people and Donald Trump personally to strengthening Ukrainian statehood during Russia's armed aggression." In particular, he mentions the transfer of lethal weapons to Ukraine - Javelin anti-tank systems - during Trump's first term in office, as well as favorable customs conditions for Ukrainian goods.
The appeal also states that Trump's decision to impose tariffs on imports from other countries has contributed to a decline in the price of Russian oil, which, according to the author, "weakens Russia's financial capabilities in waging war."
The initiator asks to amend the local budget to finance the installation of the bust and to involve American experts, representatives of the US Republican Party, the US Embassy in Ukraine, and business circles in the project.
The decision on the appeal has not yet been made. It is known that it must be reviewed by the relevant commissions of the Tairova village council.
Odesa region continues to rank fifth in Ukraine in terms of the number of streets to be renamed in the process of decommunization and decolonization of the country by region.
Earlier, activists of the organization Decolonization. Ukraine organization appealed to the Odesa City Council to dismantle 40 memorial plaques in the city, which they attributed to the Soviet and imperial heritage. Meanwhile, in Odesa, the city council instructed the Academy of Civil Engineering and Architecture to create projects for the dismantling of Russian and Soviet monuments. Funds for the development of projects for the demolition of monuments with imperial symbols were allocated at a session of the Odesa City Council on December 4. Eleven monuments were discussed.
