50 million was allocated from the state budget to support the energy sector in the Kherson region

Security measures will be strengthened at eight critical energy infrastructure facilities in the Kherson region. Fifty million hryvnias have been allocated for this purpose from the regional state budget’s reserve fund.

This was reported by the Ministry of Economy and Environment.

The funds will be used to install additional engineering structures and anti-drone protection for critical equipment.

These are energy infrastructure facilities that ensure the functioning of the region’s communities. According to the ministry, the additional protection is intended to increase their resilience to Russian attacks and reduce the risk of power outages.

“The Kherson region is under enemy shelling every day, so strengthening the protection of energy infrastructure here is of particular importance,” said Vitaliy Kindrativ, Deputy Minister of Economy, Environment, and Agriculture of Ukraine.

The work is scheduled to be completed by the end of 2026.

The situation with energy and heat supply in the Kherson region is dire. Due to constant Russian strikes on the region’s energy infrastructure, a state of emergency was officially declared back in July.

A separate state of emergency was declared specifically for Kherson’s heat supply. Damage to energy facilities posed a risk of disrupting the city’s heating season.

On August 26, Russian forces attacked the Kherson Thermal Power Plant with a guided aerial bomb. It is the main source of heat for Kherson. The plant sustained serious damage as a result of the strike.

The next day, August 27, the Russians struck the thermal power plant again. This time, they used four guided aerial bombs.

As a result of the second attack, all remaining heat-generating and power-generating equipment at the plant was completely destroyed and rendered inoperable.

Following the strikes on the thermal power plant, residents of Kherson were urged to leave the city for the winter.
