Odesa residents start returning to the high-rise damaged by Russians after restoration

Residents of a building on Knyazya Yaroslav Mudrogo Street that was damaged by a drone attack on the night of May 1 are beginning to return home.
According to the press service of the mayor's office, Mayor Gennadiy Trukhanov informed the owners of the apartments in the first entrance that they will be able to return to their homes on Monday.
The work on stabilizing the structure has already reached a stage where the safety of the residents can be guaranteed. Over the weekend, the building will be connected to all necessary utilities and construction waste will be removed from the surrounding area.
According to the contractor, the stabilization work is expected to be completed by the end of June. The occupancy of the second entrance should begin in early July, except for the apartments that were at the epicenter of the explosion. A separate reconstruction project will be developed for them after the building is stabilized.
Owners of the destroyed apartments can receive rental compensation from the Kyiv District Administration until they return to their restored apartments.
At the end of May, a high-rise building on Prince Yaroslav the Wise Avenue in Odesa (formerly Akademik Glushko Avenue), which was damaged by a Russian drone on the night of May 1, 2025, was officially declared an emergency.
Instead, the second entrance, which was hit by an attack drone and suffered the most, needs separate major repairs. After the stabilization is complete, a special project will be developed and an estimate will be determined for the restoration.
The Russians launched a massive drone strike on Odesa on the night of May 1. The attack hit residential buildings and killed local residents. The strike killed two people and injured five others. The damage included high-rise buildings, private homes, a supermarket, a school, and cars. Fires broke out in some places. The school sustained minor damage, with four windows smashed.
The press service of Ukrzaliznytsia reported that a railroad worker was killed in his home during the attack in Odesa, and that one of the railroad sections was damaged: tracks, a contact network, and three freight cars were damaged.
The Odesa Regional Prosecutor's Office has launched a war crime investigation into Russia's nighttime attack on Odesa. The drone strike killed two people.
