In Mykolaiv, for the first time, an apartment building co-owners' association (ABO) has received a grant to overhaul a residential building that was damaged by a missile attack by Russian troops.
According to the Mykolaiv City Council, the funding is provided under the Restore Home program, which is being implemented with the support of the European Union in partnership with IFC and the Energy Efficiency Fund.
The restoration works include emergency measures, reinforcement of the exterior walls and reconstruction of damaged structures. The roof waterproofing coating will also be repaired, metal insulated doors in the entrances will be replaced, and window and balcony units in apartments and common areas will be updated.
According to the city council, the grant was an important step in the restoration of Mykolaiv's housing stock after the large-scale destruction caused by Russian shelling.
The Restore Home program is aimed at supporting condominiums in the process of rebuilding destroyed buildings, improving their energy efficiency, and creating safe conditions for residents. This is the first project of its kind in the city, which gives hope to other affected homes to receive assistance and return to normal life.
Mykolaiv has suffered significant damage as a result of Russian shelling since the start of the full-scale invasion. The city, which is a strategically important port and industrial center, has been repeatedly targeted by rocket and artillery strikes. Tens of thousands of residential buildings in Mykolaiv have been damaged, with more than a thousand of them completely destroyed. High-rise buildings in Korabelny, Ingulsky and Central districts of the city were particularly affected. The blast waves and debris destroyed facades and roofs, smashed windows and doors, causing significant damage to the infrastructure.
Earlier, the Department of Housing and Communal Services signed a contract for UAH 988.6 thousand to develop a project to rebuild a dilapidated building in the center of Mykolaiv on Admiralska Street.
