A documentary about the consequences of the terrorist attack on the Kakhovka HPP was released in Kherson

A film about the consequences of flooding in Kherson region after the occupiers blew up the Kakhovka hydroelectric power station dam was screened. The plot centers on the heroic efforts of rescuers and volunteers who fought to save people and restore the region.

This is the premiere of the documentary Kakhovka HPP: Two Years After the Russian Terrorist Attack.

Exactly two years ago, on June 6, 2023, Russian troops destroyed the dam of the Kakhovka HPP. As a result of the explosion, more than 600 square kilometers of the Kherson region were flooded. The water washed away entire residential neighborhoods, destroyed critical infrastructure, destroyed Ukraine's largest irrigation system, and caused catastrophic damage to the region's natural environment.

The film tells not only about the scale of the tragedy, but also about the efforts of hundreds of people who rushed to help from the first hours after the attack. Rescuers, military personnel, volunteers, sappers, power engineers, utility workers and law enforcement officers - all those who worked around the clock to save people and overcome the consequences of the flooding - tell their stories in the film.

This film is a reminder of the cost of the tragedy in Kherson region, and at the same time a reminder of the resilience, solidarity and strength of the Ukrainian people.

In February, Zhovten Cinema hosted the premiere of the investigative documentary WhentheWaterCries, created by journalists from The Kyiv Independent. The film analyzes the events that followed the explosion of the Kakhovka hydroelectric power plant in June 2023, focusing in particular on the situation in the temporarily occupied part of the Kherson region. They collected more than 50 testimonies from eyewitnesses, volunteers, and relatives of the victims, concluding that the actual number of civilian casualties is much higher than the official figures.

Recently, Ukraine has also presented the first teaser for the horror movie KakhovkaObject, a zombie action film directed by Oleksiy Taranenko, which will be released on October 1.
