Vitaliy Kim, Minister for Veterans Affairs, who previously headed the Mykolaiv Regional State Administration, was tasked by the president with conducting an audit of the National Military Memorial Cemetery (NMMC).
This was reported by Iryna Vereshchuk, deputy head of the Office of the President, ina comment to hromadske.
According to Vereshchuk, bringing order to the NMMC was one of the new minister’s first steps.
She explained that she was present at a meeting during which Kim presented his agenda and first steps in his new role, which included bringing order to the NMM—specifically, conducting an analysis and audit. According to her, the Office of the President is currently awaiting the results of this audit.
Vereshchuk clarified that responsibility for the NVMC lies specifically with the Ministry of Veterans Affairs, which Kim heads, although she herself oversees veterans’ affairs at the Office of the President.
She noted that she is ready to make every effort on behalf of the Office of the President, but responsibility for the National Veterans’ Medical Center lies specifically with the Ministry of Veterans Affairs.
According to her, the president is clearly demanding results, and they should be forthcoming in the near future—the minister has been given the task, and it will now become clear how he handles it.
Earlier, the Supreme Court ruled that the transfer of a plot of land in the Markhalivsky Forest in the Kyiv region for the National Military Memorial Cemetery was illegal. At the same time, officials at the National Military Memorial Cemetery assured that existing graves will not be removed.
Vereshchuk emphasized that, as of now, the National Military Memorial Cemetery is a lawful construction project, since the relevant law has been passed.
According to her, the Ministry of Veterans Affairs resolved the situation in a lawful manner—the adopted law has already entered into force and has higher legal authority, so as of today, the National Military Memorial Cemetery is a lawful construction project.
As reported by Intent, in July, Vitaliy Kim completed his term as head of the Mykolaiv Regional State Administration after more than five years in office. The President of Ukraine appointed him Minister of Veterans Affairs. Recently, Kim published his final financial disclosure statement as head of the Regional State Administration.
