Valery Bolgan, editor-in-chief of the publication Intent, has been selected to serve on the jury of the National Investigative Journalism Competition.

This was announced by the contest’s founders, the Media Development Foundation.

"Given the crisis of trust among investigative journalists that we have been observing recently, as well as the demand for greater visibility of regional investigative journalism, the contest’s organizing committee has decided to update its approach to selecting the jury," the founders stated.

This year, the jury includes seven representatives from regional investigative journalism centers. Eight other jury members are independent journalists from national media outlets and media experts who are not directly involved in producing investigative journalism.

So, in addition to Valeriy Bolgan, the jury included:

  • Otar Dovzhenko, journalist and media expert;
  • Svitlana Ostapa, chair of the Supervisory Board of Public Broadcasting and deputy editor-in-chief of Detector Media;
  • Taras Petriv, president of the Suspilnist Foundation;
  • Oleg Khomenok, media trainer and member of the Board of Directors of the Global Network of Investigative Journalists;
  • Andriy Yanitsky, chair of the NGO “ProMedia”;
  • Tetyana Kozyreva, special correspondent for Suspilne News;
  • Yulia Bankova, Editor-in-Chief of LIGA.net;
  • Vita Dumanska, leader of the CHESNO Movement;
  • Lyudmila Pankratova, media lawyer;
  • Yuriy Gorbach, director of the “Power of Truth” Center for Investigative Journalism;
  • Artur Chemerys, co-founder and journalist at 18000: Cherkasy News;
  • Kateryna Rozhdestvenska, editor-in-chief and co-founder of “SODA – Your City’s Media”;
  • Volodymyr Torbich, editor-in-chief of “The Fourth Estate”;
  • Olena Mudra, journalist;
  • Anna Matvienko, co-founder of Dnipro.media;
  • Alyona Bereza, founder and journalist at “ZHAR.info.”

The National Investigative Journalism Competition was established in 2014 by the YanukovychLeaks initiative as a professional award for the best investigative journalism pieces. Its guiding principle remains unchanged: entries are evaluated and winners are selected by fellow journalists.
