The Ochakiv City Council is planning to approve a large-scale program aimed at addressing critical problems with drinking water quality and the state of the networks. The community needs to raise UAH 969 million to fully modernize its water supply and sewage systems.

The relevant draft decision is posted on the official website of the city council.

The draft program revealed that the systems have reached a critical level of wear and tear. In particular, out of 177 kilometers of water supply networks, 74.5 kilometers (almost half) need immediate replacement. Only 9 out of 15 artesian wells are operational at the Ochakiv-Service utility company, and only three out of eight pumps at the station are functioning. The large metal tank, which has been in operation for over 40 years, also requires major repairs.

The situation with water disposal is no better: 52 kilometers of the 116 km of sewer networks need to be repaired and cleaned, especially the collectors that are more than 40 years old. Wastewater treatment plants designed to process 20,000 cubic meters of wastewater per day are in fact only able to process 2,000 due to worn-out equipment and outdated energy-consuming compressors.

The program, which will be implemented in two stages, involves the rational use of underground sources, reconstruction of networks and the introduction of energy-saving equipment. The program is expected to be financed from the local budget, the company's funds and subventions from the state budget. City council members are to consider this document at their next session.

As a reminder, the Cabinet of Ministers has allocated UAH 34 million for Mykolaiv region. The funds will be used to improve the water supply system to provide residents of the region with stable access to water.

This decision is part of a government program aimed at stabilizing the water supply situation. According to a government document, changes have been made to the State Target Program for Integrated Water Supply of the Territories Affected by Military Operations. The program now includes a new measure, namely, filling the cascade of reservoirs in Mykolaiv region in November-December 2025. The State Agency of Water Resources has been appointed as the main spending unit.
