Mykolaiv Regional Council has established a center to prepare citizens for national resistance, which will teach military skills and tactical medicine. The center will work in close cooperation with the military and volunteer organizations to strengthen the region's defense capabilities.
The decision was made at a session of the Mykolaiv Regional Council.
The deputies decided to establish a municipal institution, the Mykolaiv Regional Center for Preparing Citizens for National Resistance. This decision was made in accordance with the laws of Ukraine and the Cabinet of Ministers' resolution to strengthen the preparation of the region's residents for the defense of the country.
The center will provide basic military and patriotic training for citizens, teaching them how to use weapons, safety rules, the basics of tactical medicine and how to behave in combat. In addition to practical skills, the center plans to develop national identity, patriotism, and readiness to defend the territorial integrity of Ukraine.
According to Anton Tabunschyk, head of the Mykolaiv Regional Council, similar centers are being set up in all regional centers of the country. He also noted that this issue is very important in the context of Russia's full-scale aggression.
Heorhiy Reshetilov, First Deputy Head of Mykolaiv Regional State Administration, added that Mykolaiv Guard cannot take on these functions because it has other ones. The creation of a separate institution is an opportunity for further growth. He also noted that funds will be redistributed from one utility company to another, which were allocated for resistance. The state will also allocate a subvention for the development of resistance centers.
Currently, the material and technical base has already been created, there are agreements on the use of training grounds and shooting ranges, training materials for drone control, etc. Staffing levels will be approved after the institution is established.
When asked by one of the deputies whether veterans would be involved, Reshetilov replied that two veterans have already been involved. When asked for information on why Mykolaiv region is ranked last in drone procurement, the official said that the region spent 30 million last year from the regional budget on drones, 97 million on electronic warfare, and in 2025, 13 million was spent directly on drones.
To increase the effectiveness of training, the center will cooperate with the military, volunteer organizations, and other structures. It also plans to conduct trainings, seminars, and introduce modern technologies into the educational process.
At the beginning of the year, Mykolaiv hosted a training session on marksmanship, during which citizens learned how to handle weapons and became familiar with their types. The event was organized by the military of the 140th separate reconnaissance battalion - the participants received information about types of weapons, equipment and basic safety rules.
