Odesa Executive Committee has approved new place names in Odesa. In particular, three streets and a park on Lesia Ukrainka Avenue were renamed. The decision was made on July 24. Next, the project will be put to a vote at a session of the Odesa City Council.

This became known at a meeting of the Executive Committee.

It has now been renamed:

  • Chapaeva Street (Suvorovskyi district) to Viacheslav Kyrylov Street (Peresypskyi district)

Viacheslav Kyrylov was born on December 19, 1981 in Bilhorod-Dnistrovskyi. A Ukrainian soldier in the Azov regiment, known by his call sign 'Kozak'. He died on February 15, 2015 in Shyrokyne, Donetsk region.

  • The park at the corner of Fontanska Road and Lesya Ukrainka Avenue will also be named after Lesya Ukrainka (Primorsky district)
  • Middle street on Oleksandr Svishch Street (Khadzhibey district)

Oleksandr Svishch was born on February 5, 1993 in Odesa. A soldier of the Third Separate Assault Brigade of the Land Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. He took part in the battles near Kyiv, Zaporizhzhia, Kherson and Donetsk. He died on September 12, 2023 near Bakhmut, Donetsk region.

  • Sacco Street to Architect Dmytrenko Street (Kyiv district)

Yuriy Dmytrenko - Born on March 23 (April 4), 1858. Ukrainian architect originally from Odesa. He died on July 5 (June 22), 1918.

The decisions were made on the basis of the Law of Ukraine "On Condemnation and Prohibition of Propaganda of Russian Imperial Policy in Ukraine and Decolonization of Place Names", taking into account the recommendations of the Historical and Toponymic Commission and the results of the electronic public discussion since April 2025.

Earlier, the Odesa City Council invited to participate in the renaming vote through the electronic service "Public Discussion". All residents of Odesa who had reached the age of 18 could participate. Voting was conducted for each object separately with the opportunity to leave comments.

As a reminder, activists of the NGO Decolonization.Ukraine have updated their map with the number of streets that they believe should be renamed, reducing their number in Odesa Oblast from 198 to 194. Odesa region continues to rank fifth according to the activists' calculations.
