In Ochakiv, Mykolaiv region, a man was hospitalized after being bitten by a rabies cat. The city has started vaccinating pets.
This was reported by the Ochakiv City Council.
They noted that the cat, which had rabies, died. The injured man was taken to the hospital. This is the second case of rabies among pets in the city. Pet owners are advised to vaccinate their cats, dogs and other animals.
The city council emphasized that rabies is a dangerous and incurable disease that can be transmitted from wild animals, such as foxes, wolves, and badgers, to humans. Sick animals are often not afraid of people and can attack people and domestic animals. Rabies outbreaks can occur in the springtime.
It is also noted that after a bite from a sick animal, symptoms may appear in 10-60 days or even later.
"If a person does not seek medical attention, the disease is usually fatal," the report says.
