A lawmaker raised the issue of the mass closure of schools in the Mykolaiv region

At a session of the Mykolaiv Regional Council, a councilwoman drew attention to the closure of schools, lyceums, and gymnasiums in the region and asked officials to explain how many educational institutions had already been closed and what was being done to preserve the rest, especially in rural areas.
This was stated byTetyana Demchenko, a deputy of the Mykolaiv Regional Council, during a plenary session.
She appealed to the Department of Education of the Regional Military Administration, requesting data on the situation with schools in the region.
“I would like to ask the head of our regional education administration and the Department of Education to inform us how many schools, gymnasiums, and lyceums have been closed in our region to date, which branch locations have been established, and what measures are being taken to preserve schools and educational institutions, especially in rural areas,” Demchenko stated .
Anton Tabunschyk, who was presiding over the meeting, reported that this issue had already been discussed at a relevant committee meeting attended by the director of the Department of Education, Alla Velikhovska, and the committee chair, and that the data is publicly available.
“This issue is currently on the agenda, and we will return to it after we have worked through the entire agenda,” the chair noted.
Demchenko agreed to wait for a response, but by the end of the session, no separate report on the number of closed schools had been presented to those in attendance.
At the end of the session, the chair advised the councilwoman to review the commission’s materials on her own, where, according to him, this information is already publicly available.
As Intent previously reported, Gymnasium No. 16 in Mykolaiv will not yet be able to resume in-person classes. The school is short about 1.2–1.3 million hryvnias to convert the facility into a shelter, and the boiler room located in the school’s basement must also be relocated.
