A meeting was held in Mykolaiv as part of an international environmental sustainability project. As part of the initiative, the city is creating a modern educational space to help children learn innovative technologies and environmental practices.
This was reported by the press service of the Mykolaiv City Council.
The city hosted a meeting of the Steering Committee as part of the international EcosySTEM project. This initiative aims to develop environmental and STEM education in the Black Sea region. The project was attended by representatives from Turkey, Greece, Bulgaria, and Ukraine, including scientists, environmentalists, and educators.
During the event, the participants discussed the current state of the project and plans for the future. Mykolaiv Mayor Oleksandr Senkevych emphasized the importance of involving children in environmental initiatives. According to him, it is through educating young people that long-term changes in attitudes toward the environment can be achieved.
"We need to teach children to make environmentally friendly practices part of their daily lives. It is very important that the training is interesting for them," said Senkevych.
The meeting also featured project trainers who will help implement modern approaches to environmental education. In the near future, they will travel to Istanbul to share their experience with international partners.
As part of the project, the Mykolaiv Regional Center for Scientific and Technical Creativity of Student Youth will receive an innovative educational space. There, children will be able to learn about environmental sustainability, robotics, aquaponics, waste composting, and other modern technologies. The center has already been equipped with new furniture and climate control equipment, and specialized training equipment will be installed in the near future.
As part of the project, outdoor eco-plazas are being set up, where rainwater harvesting systems, aquaponics, composting and gardening equipment will be installed. This initiative is aimed not only at education but also at creating a space for communication and exchange of ideas between environmentally conscious youth.
Also in January, students of Mykolaiv College of Civil Engineering renovated the park with the help of an international grant. This is part of a large-scale program for greening and beautification of the city, which is being implemented with the support of international partners.
Earlier, in December last year, with the support of Bloomberg Philanthropies, students from the same college created a modern ecology: they arranged the area with decorative stones, installed benches for rest and laid paving slabs. They created a cozy space that inspires citizens to preserve nature and take care of the environment.
