In Mykolaiv, students of the College of Civil Engineering renovated a public garden with the help of an international grant.

This was reported by the press service of the Mykolaiv City Council.

In Mykolaiv, a public garden at the intersection of Kolodyazna and 3 Slobidska streets was renovated thanks to a grant from the Bloomberg Philanthropies Youth Climate Action Fund and the active participation of students from the Construction College.

The project included

  • Preparation of the territory (leveling the surface, adding soil, pruning ornamental plants)
  • planting 100 lavender seedlings and 25 millet bushes;
  • replacing old benches and trash cans with modern ones.

This initiative is part of the city's greening and beautification program, which is being implemented with the support of international partners.

According to Viktor Sikalenko, director of the Mykolaiv Development Agency, they strive to engage young people in environmental projects that help mitigate the effects of climate change. Students have acquired the skills to independently implement environmental initiatives, interact with the public, city agencies, and businesses.

"Although these are only small steps in response to modern environmental challenges, they are great achievements in shaping a conscious attitude towards the environment among young people," said Viktor Sikalenko.

The project was implemented at the initiative of the Mykolaiv Development Agency, students of the Construction College of KNUBA, the Department of Architecture and Urban Planning of the City Council, and Mykolaiv Parks.

At the end of December, students of the Mykolaiv College of Civil Engineering set up a modern ecology. The project not only improved the appearance of the college grounds, but also helped to raise environmental awareness among students.

Also, thanks to international support, Mykolaiv plans to restore the historic building of the Mykola Arkas Lyceum, which was destroyed in 2022. The restoration of the educational institution, which was destroyed by a Russian missile strike, was initiated by Denmark in 2023. The project is expected to be implemented at the expense of an international partner.

Since the beginning of the full-scale invasion, more than six thousand infrastructure facilities have been restored in Mykolaiv region. UAH 1.58 billion was allocated from the state, regional and local budgets to restore the affected facilities.
