In the Odesa region, fuel prices have risen the most over the past eight months

In the Odesa region, prices rose by 5.6% over the first eight months of 2026 compared to December 2025. The most significant price increases were seen in fuel and lubricants, transportation services, telecommunications, and certain food products.
According to data from the Main Department of Statistics in the Odesa region, the consumer price index for January–August 2026 stood at 105.6%, with the largest increase recorded in the “Transportation” category—up to 120.3%. In particular, prices for fuel and lubricants rose to 139.2% of last December’s level over the eight-month period.
Transportation services also became more expensive—rising to 119.5%. Passenger rail transport rose to 124.9%, and passenger road transport to 119.3%.
In the“Communications” category, the consumer price index stood at 112.6%. Telephone and fax services rose to 115.3% of the December 2025 level.
Among food products, prices for sunflower oil rose the most—to 116%. Fish and fish products rose to 109%, while bread and baked goods rose to 114.2%. At the same time, prices for meat and meat products remained below the December level—the index stood at 99.6%.
A noticeable decline was recorded in the “Milk, Cheese, and Eggs” category—the index stood at 91.7%. Specifically, milk prices fell to 95.8% of the December 2025 level, while egg prices fell to 58.3% of that level.
Vegetables were also cheaper in August than in December of last year: the corresponding index stood at 91.8%. In contrast, fruit prices rose to 107%.
In the housing and utilities sector, the overall index stood at 104.6%. The most significant price changes in this category were for water supply—up to 157.5%, sewer services—up to 136.9%, and apartment building management services—up to 119.8%.
Overall, food and non-alcoholic beverages rose in price by 102.5% from January through August, while alcoholic beverages and tobacco products rose by 112.8%. Clothing and footwear, on the other hand, had an index of 96.9%, meaning their prices were, on average, lower than in December 2025.
At the same time, in July, the Odesa and Mykolaiv regions recorded the most significant decline in consumer prices for food and non-alcoholic beverages among all regions of Ukraine.
