Attack on energy sector in Odesa region damaged the environment by almost a billion

Environmentalists have calculated the environmental damage in Odesa Oblast after the shelling of critical infrastructure on November 17. The damage is estimated at over UAH 931 million.
This was reported by the State Environmental Inspectorate of the Southwestern District.
Environmental inspectors examined the impact sites to record the environmental impact and calculate the damage.
The results of the inspection showed significant contamination of the area with metal fragments and construction waste over an area of 65,500 square meters. The total amount of environmental damage exceeded UAH 931 million.
The inspectors submitted the damage data to the Operational Headquarters of the State Environmental Inspectorate of Ukraine and entered it into the unified register of war-related damage.
On November 17, the Russian army launched a massive missile and drone strike against Ukraine. The enemy used "shahids," cruise, ballistic, and aerial missiles. A total of about 120 missiles and 90 drones. Air defense forces destroyed more than 140 air targets.
Energy infrastructure was damaged in Odesa region. Two Ukrenergo employees were killed - 41-year-old Dmytro Kaminnyi and 44-year-old Maksym Shargorodskyi.
In Odesa district, private houses, outbuildings and cars were damaged in the attack. A 17-year-old boy who was injured was taken to hospital with shrapnel wounds.
The shelling of energy infrastructure in Artsyz, Bolhrad district, Odesa region, on November 17, 2024, caused a fire of oil products - transformer oil - and the release of 116 tons of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere.
Almost 116 tons of carbon dioxide were released into the atmosphere and the total environmental damage was estimated at over UAH 387 thousand.
