Environmentalists calculate air damage from the fire at Privoz

Specialists from the State Environmental Inspectorate of the Southwestern District have calculated the air damage caused by the fire at the Privoz market, which was caused by Russian shelling.
According to the inspectorate's press service, the fire released nearly 160 tons of pollutants into the atmosphere, including 158 tons of carbon dioxide.
The amount of damage to the air is 482,157 hryvnias. This refers to the shelling on July 24, which resulted in a large-scale fire at the Privoz market in Odesa's Prymorskyi district. The area of the fire reached 2,000 square meters. The information was transferred to the Operational Headquarters of the State Environmental Inspectorate of Ukraine to create a unified register of environmental damage caused by armed aggression.
On the night of July 24, Odesa again came under a massive attack by Russian attack drones. Despite the work of the air defense forces, the debris and explosions caused large-scale destruction, fires, and injuries to civilians. A nine-story residential building sustained the most damage. In one of the entrances, apartments from the 5th to the 8th floor were completely destroyed, and fires broke out on the 5th and 6th floors. Five people were rescued from the blocked apartments, and 33 others were evacuated.
The State Emergency Service set up an Unbreakable Point near the building, and psychologists from the State Emergency Service and the National Police worked with the residents. Rescuers also eliminated the aftermath of the strikes in other parts of Odesa: fires broke out in a private house, at a gas station and in trade pavilions.
On the same day, rescuers recovered the body of a man from the rubble of a high-rise building in Odesa damaged by an overnight attack by Russia on July 24.
