Environmental damage caused by fires in the ecosystems of Odesa Oblast over the past day has reached UAH 55 million.
These estimates were made public by the State Environmental Inspectorate of the Southwestern District.
According to ecologists, the fire destroyed more than 25 hectares over the past day, for example, 15 hectares of vegetation and shrubs burned in Berezivskyi district, Andriyevo-Ivanivska territorial community, and another 10 hectares in Odesa district, Dachnenska territorial community. The fire released more than 18,000 tons of pollutants into the air, including 17,820 tons of carbon dioxide.
In turn, the State Emergency Service in Odesa Oblast also reported on high-profile fires. Thus, in the garden cooperative "Chaika" in Odesa district, dry grass and shrubs were burning. Due to strong gusts of wind, the units worked under an elevated call number. The fire was extinguished over an area of 10 hectares. In the village of Levadivka, Berezovsky district, dry grass and shrubs were burning in separate fires over an area of 15 hectares. Firefighters eliminated the fire, preventing it from spreading to a larger area. In the village of Shershentsi, Podil district, a man born in 1969 suffered burns to 35% of his body as a result of burning garbage. The victim was hospitalized in moderate condition. The cause of the fire was careless handling of fire by the victim while burning garbage.
Earlier, the Yosia cat shelter in Izmail, Odesa Oblast, was damaged on July 7 as a result of a fire that started at a nearby landfill, spread and reached residential buildings. According to the Izmail District Military Administration, due to hot weather without precipitation and strong gusty winds, an extremely high level of fire danger has been established in the Izmail district, which has already caused several fires in different communities (Izmail, Safianivka and others) on July 7 this year - victims have been registered.
