A student of a gymnasium from Kherson region made a film about the ecocide in Kakhovka

Daria Makhinya, a student of Kakhovka Gymnasium, has created her own documentary short film called The Road Home.
This was reported by Kakhovka MBA with reference to the film.
According to the author, the film shows the scale of ecocide caused by a full-scale war through the fate of the Kherson region and her native Kakhovka. "The Road Home is a story about the loss of home and the way to restore it. The film is a call to protect the environment and preserve the Ukrainian land for future generations, emphasizing the environmental consequences of military aggression.

''I was born and raised in Kakhovka, a town where the Dnipro River embraces the steppe, where the sun is generous and the land is fertile. We called our reservoir the Kakhovka Sea. Its shore is the place of my childhood memories, inspiration and dreams. The land of two seas, biosphere reserves, delicious watermelons and golden wheat. Kherson region. This is my home. But one day my home disappeared," the film begins with these words.
The film then moves on to reflections and facts about the consequences of the Russian ecocide caused by the destruction of the hydroelectric power plant.

As a reminder, on June 6, 2023, the occupiers blew up the dam of the Kakhovka hydroelectric power plant. This led to a large-scale environmental and humanitarian disaster: dozens of deaths, millions of people without drinking water, destroyed agriculture, a threat to the Zaporizhzhia NPP, and the proliferation of mines. The UN has estimated the damage at $14 billion, but the real consequences have yet to be accounted for.
Also, in June 2025, a film about the consequences of flooding in the Kherson region after the occupiers blew up the Kakhovka hydroelectric dam was screened. The plot focuses on the heroic efforts of rescuers and volunteers who fought to save people and restore the region.
