A painting by a Lithuanian artist was stolen from the Kherson Museum during the occupation

Employees of the Kherson Art Museum told about another painting stolen by the occupiers. This is a painting by the famous Lithuanian artist Raimondas Savickas entitled "At the Ancient Wall".

In 2022, before the de-occupation of Kherson, Russian invaders looted the Kherson Regional Art Museum named after O. Shovkunenko. They took more than 10,000 exhibits, including paintings and sculptures. The stolen property included works of art by both Ukrainian and foreign artists.
"Raimondas Savickas' creative style is characterized by a commitment to the principles of the expressive, colorful French school of painting. His works have a laconic composition and are full of expressive, saturated colors that the master boldly combines. Often, lonely, melancholic figures add special depth and emotionality to his paintings," the museum's website says about the artist.
In particular, the Lithuanian artist Savickas, who has been not only an artist but also the head of his own gallery for over 20 years, celebrated his 70th birthday yesterday (December 10).
Earlier, the museum's website reported that in the fall of 2022, Russians stole 147 paintings by Kherson artist Oleksiy Shovkunenko, which were stored in the museum of the same name. Only nine works survived, of which one is still in the museum.
The painting by Shovkunenko that remained in the museum is "Portrait of His Wife." In total, the occupiers stole more than 10,000 works by Ukrainian, Russian, and European artists from the Kherson Art Museum. So far, 130 of the stolen works have been identified. It is known that 129 of them are in the occupied Crimea, and the whereabouts of another painting are still in question.
