Two bodies were found in Odessa following an explosion in an apartment

In Odesa, a man detonated a grenade in his apartment while police were searching for his neighbor, who had gone missing on her way to work. After the explosion, law enforcement officers found the bodies of both individuals.
This was reported by the press service of the National Police in the Odesa region.
According to law enforcement, on the evening of September 28, a local resident contacted the police. He said that his 43-year-old wife had left for work that morning but never arrived at her destination and had not been in contact.
Law enforcement officers immediately launched a search—going door-to-door in the building where the couple lived and interviewing neighbors.
The owner of one of the apartments did not open the door for some time. Then an explosion was heard from inside, and a fire broke out.
After firefighters extinguished the blaze, police found the body of the 38-year-old owner inside the apartment. His arm had been torn off by the blast.
According to preliminary findings by bomb disposal experts, the man died as a result of a grenade explosion. Fragments of the grenade were recovered and sent for forensic analysis.
During a subsequent search of a neighboring apartment, which also belonged to the deceased, law enforcement officers discovered the body of a woman showing signs of a violent death. She was identified as a 43-year-old local resident whose disappearance had previously been reported by the man.
The police have opened two criminal cases under the article on intentional homicide —one regarding the woman’s death and the other regarding the man’s suicide.
Investigators will order a series of forensic examinations. The circumstances surrounding the deaths of both individuals and possible motives are being determined.
As previously reported by Intent, police have charged a military serviceman with throwing a grenade near an educational institution toward minors in the city of Podilsk. The man faces up to seven years in prison.
