A Ukrainian language teacher from the Kherson region was convicted of working for Russia

A former Ukrainian language teacher from the Kherson region voluntarily sided with the Russians after the region was occupied, headed the education department in the occupation administration, and became a deputy for the "United Russia" party. She was convicted of collaboration.
This is stated in the verdict of theRivne City Court.
According to the case file, the woman was born in the village of Khrestivka in the Kakhovka district. Before the occupation, she initially worked as a Ukrainian language teacher and later served as the head of the education department in the local community.
After Russian troops seized part of the Kherson region, she voluntarily agreed to work in the occupation administration and headed the department for work with educational institutions in the so-called Chaplynka municipal district.
In September 2023, she participated in the illegal elections as a candidate for the “United Russia” party and became a deputy of the Chaplynka Municipal District’s occupation council.
Her activities were confirmed by posts on Russian social media platforms —VKontakte and Odnoklassniki. In photos and videos, she participated in school events as a representative of the occupation authorities and received awards from the leadership of the illegal authorities. She was also identified by a former colleague who testified in the case.
The court found the woman guilty under Part 5 of Article 111-1 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine—collaboration.
She was sentenced to:
- 8 years of imprisonment;
- a 15-year ban on holding positions in state and local government bodies;
- confiscation of all her property.
The case was heard in absentia, as the defendant is located in the temporarily occupied territory and did not appear in court. The verdict may be appealed.
Another teacher from Kherson turned her own car into a tool for Russian military intelligence. The court found it proven that the information she gathered helped Russian invaders select targets for attacks on the frontline city.
