In Odesa, a driver who was wanted for violating military registration regulations injured a servicemember from the Territorial Recruitment and Social Support Center. The man then attempted to run over the servicemember with his car but was detained.
This was reported by the press service of the Odesa Regional Territorial Recruitment and Social Support Center.
The incident occurred on October 20, 2026, while a joint alert team was on duty at a checkpoint. The team consisted of personnel from the Regional Recruitment and Social Support Center and officers of the National Police of Ukraine.
According to the press service of the Regional Recruitment and Social Support Center, law enforcement officers and military personnel spotted a vehicle whose driver attempted to flee and created a dangerous situation. After the vehicle was stopped, a check of the driver’s documents revealed that the man was wanted for violating military registration regulations.
While his identity was being verified, the driver actively resisted and injured a servicemember in the neck with an object resembling a knife. He then attempted to run over the servicemember with his vehicle.
The man was detained at the scene. The injured soldier was taken to a medical facility, where he received the necessary treatment. He is currently under medical supervision.
Law enforcement officials have launched an investigation into the attack. They must establish all the circumstances of the incident and determine the legal classification of the detainee’s actions.
The Odesa Regional Center for Temporary Accommodation and Social Support emphasized that violence against military personnel—in particular, attacks on their lives and health—is unacceptable and entails legal liability in accordance with the law. The agency also called on citizens to comply with the law and refrain from violence during civil defense drills.
