A court in Mykolaiv has authorized the transfer of crime boss Igor Naumenko ("Nauma") from a penal colony to a pretrial detention center because the trip to court takes up to 3.5 hours.

This was reported by the publication “MykVisti.”

Earlier, Naumenko’s attorney had requested that her client be transferred to the Mykolaiv pretrial detention center. According to her, being held in a correctional colony, where convicted prisoners are housed, restricts his rights.

According to the publication, in the text of the ruling, the judge concluded that holding the defendant 150 kilometers away from the court is inconsistent with ensuring proper criminal proceedings.

The ruling notes that the convoy takes an average of 3.5 hours one way to travel from the Kazankivska Correctional Colony to the Central District Court. The judge also took into account Naumenko’s age and state of health.

Furthermore, the ruling states that systematic transport over such a distance could create conditions that degrade human dignity and violate the defendant’s right to a defense.

The judge denied the other motions.

Ihor Naumenko was detained in 2025 by the Department of Strategic Investigations. He is suspected of forming a criminal organization (Article 255 of the Criminal Code) and extortion (Article 189).

According to the investigation, he attempted to take over an agricultural enterprise in the Odesa region. The businessman was demanded to pay 550,000 U.S. dollars or hand over a property complex and 60 trucks, under threat of “problems” if he refused.

Furthermore, according to investigators, Naumenko and individuals under his control exerted criminal influence in pretrial detention centers and penal colonies. He allegedly coordinated the activities of his accomplices, collected money for the “common fund,” established rules for inmates, and controlled criminal groups.

Igor Naumenko had already served his sentence but was released from Arbuzinsky Correctional Colony No. 83 in early May 2023.
