In Mykolaiv, an attempt was made to transfer a crime boss from a prison colony to a pretrial detention center

The defense team for criminal boss Igor Naumenko (“Nauma”) requested that he be transferred from the Kazankivska Correctional Colony to the Mykolaiv Pretrial Detention Center for the duration of the trial. According to the lawyer, being held in the correctional colony makes it difficult to communicate confidentially with her client and prepare for court hearings.

A preliminary hearing took place on September 18.Svitlana Ishbulatova, a lawyerwith the , represents the defendant, who is charged with exerting criminal influence and extortion. 

The defense attorney noted that transferring Igor Naumenko to a pretrial detention center is of fundamental importance. According to the attorney, during such meetings, it is possible to discuss the factual circumstances of the charges, the evidence, and Naumenko’s position, as well as defense tactics, preparation for questioning, and other procedural actions.

At the same time, she emphasized that the confidentiality of communication between the defense attorney and the client is a necessary prerequisite for an effective defense.

Ishbulatova also pointed out that transferring her client to the Mykolaiv Pretrial Detention Center would reduce the time and resources required to transport him to court, as well as ensure that he can communicate regularly with his defense attorneys and prepare for court hearings.

Currently, Ihor Naumenko is temporarily being held in a separate cell in the section for individuals serving de facto life sentences. This is due to renovation work. According to the administration of Kazankivska Colony No. 93, he will later be transferred to the appropriate section for detainees.

As previously reported by Intent, Ihor Naumenko, known as a “polozhenets” or a person with significant criminal influence, expanded his activities to southern Ukraine, specifically the Mykolaiv, Odesa, and Kherson regions, as well as to correctional facilities in those regions.

According to the investigation, he attempted to take over an agricultural enterprise in the Odesa region. He demanded $550,000 from a businessman or the transfer of a property complex and 60 trucks, threatening “problems” in case of refusal.

In addition, Naumenko and individuals under his control exerted criminal influence in pretrial detention centers and penal colonies. He coordinated the activities of his accomplices, collected money for the “common fund,” established rules for inmates, and controlled the activities of criminal groups.
