Kherson Deputy from Banned Party Faces Treason Charges for Collaborating with Occupation Authorities

A deputy from the Kherson region from a banned party was accused of treason for cooperating with the occupation administration. He was previously sentenced to 10 years in prison for collaboration.

This was reported by the press service of the Kherson Regional Prosecutor's Office.

Prosecutors of the Genichesk District Prosecutor's Office sent to court an indictment against a deputy of the Genichesk City Council from the banned political party OPFL, who is accused of treason and collaboration under Part 2 of Article 111, Part 5 of Article 111-1 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.

The investigation found that in November 2022, the accused voluntarily agreed to take the position of "Deputy Head of the Genichesk Military-Civilian Administration", and in December 2023 he became "Deputy Head of the Administration of the Genichesk Municipal District of Kherson Region".

He was responsible for the social sphere and housing and communal services, supervised the activities of illegal authorities, including the issuance of family composition certificates for the processing of documents under Russian law. In addition, he was engaged in the reorganization of cultural and educational institutions to switch to Russian programs.

The actions of the accused were aimed at undermining activities against Ukraine and actually creating conditions for the transfer of part of the territory of Ukraine under Russian control.

According to the press service, the defendant was previously convicted of collaboration and sentenced to 10 years in prison, and deprived of the right to hold positions in state and local government for 15 years.

Also, a former member of the Verkhovna Rada of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea was sentenced in absentia to 15 years in prison for treason and encroachment on the territorial integrity of Ukraine. He supported the occupation of Crimea, voted for the pseudo-referendum and was appointed to a position in the occupation authorities, which is why he is currently wanted.

Earlier, the collaborator, who worked for the Russian invaders in a penal colony during the occupation of Kherson region, was detained after trying to hide among the Armed Forces. He was notified of suspicion of collaboration, which provides for up to 15 years in prison.

Not long ago, during a court hearing in Mykolaiv, Eduard Shevchenko, accused of high treason, a former commander and former official of the Ochakiv City Council, became ill, which led to the postponement of the case.
