A resident of the village of Ingulets, who voluntarily agreed to take a position in an illegal government body created by the Russian invaders during the occupation of Kherson region, was sentenced to 10 years in prison with confiscation of property.
This decision was made by the Kherson City Court on April 3.
The court found the defendant guilty of committing a criminal offense under Part 5 of Article 111-1 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine - collaboration, which involves voluntarily taking a position with administrative functions in the occupation administration of the aggressor state.
The man, according to the court, agreed to the invaders' proposal and on August 23, 2022, was officially appointed the so-called "head of the Ingulets village settlement" as part of the "military-civilian administration of the Belozersk settlement territorial community of the Kherson district".
In this position, he performed organizational and administrative functions, organized the work of institutions, issued orders, collected data on the local population, managed the work of post offices and a lyceum, and actively cooperated with the Russian military. According to witnesses, the man openly declared pro-Russian views and stated that "Russia is here forever."
During the occupation of Ingulets, the accused repeatedly appeared at the village council building, where he introduced himself as the "starosta" and offered people to return to work, including teachers and postal workers. He also organized a "referendum" in September 2022, for which he received a salary from the occupation administration.
The verdict was passed in the absence of the accused (in absentia), as he evaded the pre-trial investigation and court, and is considered to be a fugitive from justice. He was put on the wanted list.
The court found him guilty and sentenced him: 10 years in prison, 15 years of prohibition to hold certain positions and full confiscation of his property.
According to the CJR, the verdict was handed down to Valeriy Yakovets, who lives in Russia, probably in the city of Anapa, Krasnodar Territory.
Recently, a resident of the Kherson region was sentenced to six years in prison for participating in the illegal Russian "referendum" in the temporarily occupied territory. Olena Zavorikhina, the former head of the village of Volodymyrivka, who sided with the Russians on her own, was also sentenced to 15 years in prison with confiscation of property.
Another 10 years in prison with confiscation of property was imposed on the so-called "head" of Dudchan from Kherson region.
