Mykolaiv has decided to introduce energy independence and install cogeneration units. It is planned to spend almost one and a half billion hryvnias on this.
This was reported by the Center for Public Investigations with reference to the Dream ecosystem.
It is planned to install seven cogeneration units at the facilities of Mykolaivoblteploenergo.
The project aims to upgrade the energy infrastructure by installing cogeneration units. This solution will ensure more efficient use of energy resources, increase the reliability and efficiency of heat supply and electricity generation, and help reduce environmental impact.

It will also provide heat to about 100,000 consumers, residents of high-rise buildings, 130 social institutions, including 16 medical facilities, schools, kindergartens, sports schools, and municipal social centers.
Key objectives of the project:
- Increase energy efficiency: cogeneration units allow simultaneous production of heat and electricity, which significantly increases fuel efficiency.
- Reduced costs: optimization of energy processes reduces fuel and equipment maintenance costs.
- Environmental improvements: more efficient use of energy resources helps reduce greenhouse gas emissions and other harmful substances.
- Reducing dependence on external suppliers: local power generation increases the region's energy security and reduces dependence on external sources.

The implementation of this project will optimize the operation of the company's energy facilities, reduce fuel consumption, and improve the environmental situation in the region.
The project budget is UAH 1 billion 456 million.
Of this amount, UAH 1 billion 144 million will be spent on equipment purchases and UAH 312 million on construction. So far, donor funds have already provided partial funding, with 10.04%, or UAH 146 million 136 thousand, allocated for equipment supply in 2023-2024.

The project was initiated by the Mykolaiv City Council. The estimated duration is 30 months. The project is currently in implementation status.
According to the project description, the installation of cogeneration units will be provided for in the program of comprehensive restoration of the territory of the territorial community in accordance with the Resolution of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine dated 14.10.2022 No. 1159 and will be taken into account when developing the heat supply scheme for the city of Mykolaiv.
The International Bank for Reconstruction and Development has also allocated more than UAH 57 million for the reconstruction of the boiler house. According to the project description, modern equipment will help reduce fuel costs and increase the efficiency of the boiler house. This will reduce operating costs and make heat supply more cost-effective. In total, the project requires more than UAH 200 million.
Earlier, Mykolaivvodokanal provided more than half a million hryvnias to restore water supply in the city. It is planned to reconstruct a steel water pipeline along Myru Avenue from Pivdenna Street to Pohranichna Street. In total, the estimated cost of the water supply system reconstruction project is over UAH 100 million.
