The High Anti-Corruption Court will continue to consider the case of Odesa Mayor Hennadiy Trukhanov and the case of Oleksiy Spektor, former director of the municipal property department of the Odesa City Council, despite his death.

The decision was made by the HACCU, Slovo i Dilo reports.

According to the court's decision of July 31, confirmed by forensic documents, Spector died on June 27, 2024. The prosecutor of the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office requested that the case against Spector be closed due to his death and that the preventive measure be lifted. However, the deceased's wife insisted on continuing the trial to rehabilitate his name.

The court denied the prosecutor's motion to close the case, but canceled the bail of UAH 1,342,000, which had been previously imposed on Spector.

Earlier, the High Anti-Corruption Court began consideration of the merits of the case on the acquisition of the administrative building of the former Krayan plant, in which Odesa Mayor Gennadiy Trukhanov is the main defendant.

The Odesa mayor and others are accused of misappropriating budget funds in the amount of over UAH 92 million as a result of the scheme to acquire the administrative building of the former Krayan plant into municipal ownership at a price that was twice as high as the actual price.

In addition to Odesa Mayor Gennadiy Trukhanov, the following are involved in this case: His deputy Pavlo Vugelman, former head of the Standing Committee on Communal Property of the Odesa City Council Vasyl Shkryabai, former director of the Department of Communal Property of the Odesa City Council Oleksiy Spector and his former deputy Volodymyr Radionov.

And in December 2023, the High Anti-Corruption Court refused to merge two criminal proceedings on the misappropriation of more than UAH 92 million from the Odesa budget during the purchase of the Krayan plant building.

It was a case in which Odesa Mayor Hennadii Trukhanov is the accused and another in which one of the accused is former MP Oleksandr Dubovoi.

In January 2020, NABU detectives served suspicion notices in the Krayan case to four more citizens who, according to the investigation, are aiders and abettors. The new suspects are Anatoliy Kolomiyets, a former deputy of the Kiliya District Council, Oleh Babenko, a deputy of the Odesa Regional Council, and Oleksandr Dubovyi, a former MP, as well as Aliona Popova , a former assistant to the mayor of Odesa when he was an MP . It should be noted that the latter was put on the international wanted list, and the case against the three new defendants is being heard separately by another court panel and has also been delayed at the preparatory stage of the HACC for the second year because of the defendants and their defense.
