On the occasion of the Science Day, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy presented state awards to leading Ukrainian scientists. Among the awardees are scientists from the southern regions.

The relevant decree No. 307/2025 was published on the President's website.

The honorary title of Honored Worker of Science and Technology of Ukraine was awarded to Yuriy Yaremko, Doctor of Economics, Professor at Kherson State Agrarian and Economic University. He has more than a hundred scientific publications, including monographs, textbooks, copyright certificates, and articles in international scientific databases.

Kateryna Tanashchuk, Vice-Rector of the State University of Intellectual Technologies and Communications in Odesa, was also awarded the title of Honored Worker of Education of Ukraine. She is the author of more than 60 scientific papers, including 9 monographs (one of them a single author), publications in Scopus, and numerous conference presentations. She also has 4 copyright certificates.

Every year on the third Saturday of May, Ukraine honors scientists who glorify the country with their discoveries. This year's Science Day falls on May 17. It is an official holiday established by a decree of Ukrainian President Leonid Kuchma in 1997. Its purpose is to honor the contribution of scientists to the development of the state and strengthen its intellectual potential.

Since 2022, after Russia's full-scale invasion, Ukrainian science has adapted to the new realities. Many scientists have joined the development of defense solutions, cyber defense and innovations in medical care for the wounded at the front.

Science Day is not only an official event but also a holiday that brings together people of all ages and professions. On this day, events are held across the country to popularize science and bring it closer to everyone.
