An electronic petition on the need for major repairs and cleaning of storm sewers in Odesa has been posted on the website of the Presidential Office.

The author of the petition, Vladyslav Sazonenko, noted that every year the city suffers from significant flooding during heavy rains.

Due to the unsatisfactory condition of the storm sewer system, streets, yards, basements of residential buildings, infrastructure facilities and transport are submerged in water. The problem is systemic and, in the author's opinion, has not been properly addressed for many years. Partial cleaning of individual sections of the sewerage system does not produce the desired result. A comprehensive overhaul and regular maintenance of the storm sewer system throughout the city is needed.

Therefore, the author of the appeal asks President Volodymyr Zelenskyi to:

It should be noted that according to architect and urbanist David Pishchev, who expressed his opinion in an interview with Accenture Intent, a repeat of the flooding of Odesa like the one that occurred on September 30 can only be avoided by completely reconstructing the entire stormwater system of the city.

Meanwhile, law enforcement officers have begun inspections and investigations in the offices of Odesa municipality and district administrations as part of criminal proceedings under Part 3 of Article 367 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (negligence that caused death).
