The UN Security Council meeting on Ukraine will be held on December 9 at 17:00 Kyiv time.

This was reported by the Azerbaijani news agency APA with reference to the press service of the Permanent Mission of Slovenia to the United Nations.

It is known that the initiative to hold the meeting came from Slovenia, which holds the presidency of the UN Security Council in December 2025. The proposal was also supported by Denmark, France, the United Kingdom, Greece, and South Korea. Although the specific topic of discussion has not yet been specified, it is expected to relate to the current situation in Ukraine.

On December 5, the UN adopted a resolution on the return of Ukrainian children by Russia. The international community overwhelmingly supported the document, which condemns the illegal deportation of Ukrainian children and demands their immediate return, an end to forced adoptions and ideological indoctrination.

The resolution was supported by 91 countries, while 12 voted against, including Russia. Despite international efforts, only 1,850 children have been returned home so far, so the UN Secretary-General will coordinate the process of finding and safely returning the rest, and Ukraine continues to cooperate with international partners.

The document ''demands that the Russian Federation ensure the immediate, safe and unconditional return of all Ukrainian children who have been forcibly relocated or deported'' and calls on Moscow to cease any further actions of deportation, family separation, change of citizenship, adoption or foster care, and ideological indoctrination.

The text also calls on the UN Secretary-General to step up his good offices, in particular through his Special Representative for Children and Armed Conflict, to coordinate UN action, engage with Russia to trace the children who have been removed, and ensure access for international monitoring and humanitarian organizations.
