"The Kinburn Spit will be free, like all other temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine," the statement said.

Since the beginning of the full-scale war, environmentalists have recorded 253 fires on the Kinburn Spit, which is under temporary occupation.

The total area of land affected by the fires amounted to 7,166 hectares, with some areas burning twice and some three times. Scientists are conducting remote monitoring of the fires on the Kinburn Peninsula, but due to active hostilities, it is not yet possible to accurately assess the extent of the environmental damage.

Over the two years of the full-scale invasion, Russia has caused $2.4 billion in environmental damage to the Mykolaiv region.

The war in the Mykolaiv region has damaged 79 nature reserve sites. Under occupation and in the combat zone were 16 nature reserve sites with a total area of 44 thousand hectares. These include the Black Sea Biosphere Reserve, Sviatoslav's White Coast National Nature Park, Kinburn Spit Regional Landscape Park, Vysunsko-Ingulets Regional Landscape Park, and four natural monuments.
