Ukraine has recovered 10 soldiers from captivity who had been listed as missing in action

On August 24, Ukraine repatriated ten more servicemen from the Armed Forces of Ukraine and the National Guard who had been held captive. This marks the second phase of the latest prisoner exchange.

This was reported by the Coordination Headquarters for the Treatment of Prisoners of War.

The released servicemen include sergeants, soldiers, and sailors. All ten had been listed as missing in action.

The servicemen were defending Ukraine in the Donetsk region. Two of them had been considered missing in action since 2024, and eight since 2025.

At the direction of the President of Ukraine, the service members were returned from the Republic of Belarus. The exchange was made possible as a result of negotiations by the Coordination Headquarters’ working group on exchanges.

Upon their return, all released servicemen will receive the necessary support and medical treatment and will undergo a course of rehabilitation.

The Coordination Headquarters emphasized that efforts to locate and repatriate Ukrainians held captive in Russia are ongoing.

Recently,Andriy Yusov, a representative of the Main Intelligence Directorate (GUR), reported that the second phase of a major prisoner exchange between Ukraine and Russia could take place in the near future and be larger than the previous one.

Previously, another prisonerexchangetook place between Ukraine and Russia. A total of 103 Ukrainian soldiers returned home.

Human Rights CommissionerDmytro Lubinetsnoted that the vast majority of those returned—99% of those released—were privates and sergeants. The oldest was 59 years old, and the youngest was 26.

Vitaliy Krasnyansky, a resident of the Odesa region, returned from Russian captivity during the exchange.
