In the first half of 2026, the trolleybuses operated by the municipal enterprise "Mykolaivelektrotrans" carried 8 million passengers.

This was reportedby the press service of the Mykolaiv City Council.

During the same period last year, there were one million fewer trips on Mykolaiv’s trolleybuses. The annual growth rate is 15%.

All statistical data on trips are generated using an automated passenger flow tracking system. Monitoring is conducted directly on the trolleybuses. It is done anonymously and records only the number of passengers boarding and alighting. The company uses the data to analyze route utilization, which allows it to plan the development of the trolleybus network and respond promptly to passenger needs.

The city continues to expand its route network. As noted by the press office, the number of trolleybus routes in Mykolaiv has doubled in recent years—from 6 to 12. This has made it possible to provide transportation links to outlying areas of the city.

Currently, the fare on a trolleybus is 15 hryvnias when paid to the driver or 12 hryvnias when paid via a QR code. Free rides are provided for 21 categories of passengers eligible for discounts. Since May, a new payment method has been in use on public transit: the “conductor’s ticket.” It is offered to passengers who have not paid their fare. The cost of a conductor’s ticket is 300 hryvnias.

In May, the municipal enterprise “Mykolaivelektrotrans” reported on the results of the first week of operation for the new trolleybus route to the Kazarsky neighborhood. Over 15,000 passenger trips were made in seven days. At that time, four trolleybuses were running daily on the route.

Due to the extreme heat in Ukraine, air conditioning on Mykolaiv’s public transportation may experience intermittent service. The “Mykolaivelektrotrans” municipal enterprise attributed this to heavy strain on the overhead contact lines and electrical equipment and urged passengers not to open the windows while the air conditioning is running.
