For the first time since 2014, faculties have been established at the Institute of the Navy, which is a step towards the transformation of the educational institution into a modern Naval Academy.

This was reported by the press service of the Institute.

Three such units have already been formed within the structure of the Institute:

A separate step in reforming the training system was the merger of the Institute's courses into a single cadet detachment, which should strengthen the organization of service, military education, and cohesion of future naval officers.

The Institute of Naval Forces of the National University "Odesa Maritime Academy" is a higher education institution of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine that trains specialists for the Navy of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

On April 4, 2014, 103 cadets of the Nakhimov Naval Academy, who were loyal to the military oath, were transferred to Odesa along with part of the university's command and teaching staff as a result of the annexation of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea and the city of Sevastopol by the Russian Federation. Based on the resolution of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine in June 2014, the Nakhimov Naval Academy was liquidated and the Faculty of Naval Forces of the Odesa National Maritime Academy was established. In July 2016, the Cabinet was reorganized into the Institute of the Navy of the National University "Odesa Maritime Academy".

In 2024, according to the action plan for the implementation of the Maritime Security Strategy of Ukraine, the reorganization of the Institute of the Navy of the National University "OMA" began, according to which the institute will receive the status of an independent university. The reorganization is expected to be completed by 2028.
