As part of the efforts to upgrade the city's drainage system and protect areas from flooding during heavy rains, the Capital Construction Department of Odesa City Council is overhauling the main stormwater collector Novoarkadiyskyi.

This was reported by the press service of the Odesa City Council.

The existing main collectors do not provide effective drainage during heavy rains and need to be cleaned and modernized.

At the final stage of work, the offshore part of the collector is being overhauled. The offshore section of the Novoarkadiyske collector is in an unsatisfactory technical condition, characterized by an extreme degree of corrosion and abrasion, has numerous through holes through which the main discharge occurs, starting from the emergency point, which is located at a distance of 8 meters from the coastline.

The overhaul project envisages the restoration of the well, connection and repair of the outlet pipe using the "rehabilitation" method by laying a new pipeline in the existing collector.

Given that the collector pipe is located in the Black Sea, the construction work requires the use of special mechanisms and equipment, as well as the work of divers. The project involves clearing the existing collector of sand and debris.

The repair work started on August 15. However, on September 30, 9 people, including one child, died as a result of the bad weather in Odesa. The bad weather caused serious damage: flooding of roads, power outages, property damage, and trees falling down.
