In occupied Crimea, road repairs have been postponed until 2027. The decision was made due to the reallocation of funds to the war against Ukraine.

This was reported by Suspilne.Crimea.

The publication cites Crimea’s occupation head, Sergey Aksyonov. According to him, postponing the planned roadwork was a necessary step, as spending on the Russian military has increased. At the same time, he noted that issues related to addressing road hazards must still be resolved.

“This is a necessary measure due to increased spending on defense and security. However, all issues regarding graveling, grading, and addressing road hazards in municipalities must be fully resolved,” he said.

As previously reported by Intent, the temporarily occupied Crimea ranked 55th out of 80 in Russia’s road safety rating. At the same time, the number of traffic accidents on the peninsula has decreased overall.

The main causes of fatal accidents in occupied Crimea were identified as driving into oncoming traffic and speeding, especially on highways between populated areas. At the same time, on the illegally constructed “Tavrida” highway, visitors most often ignore traffic rules.

According to Crimean automotive expert Dmitry Taran, the large number of traffic cameras on the roads does not prevent speeding, driving into oncoming traffic, or drunk driving. He says that drivers often get used to the locations of the cameras and rely on them instead of traffic signs and road markings.
