Gasoline Has Disappeared from Crimea After Aksyonov's Promise to Lower Prices

Sergey Aksyonov, the Gauleiter of occupied Crimea, promised that starting September 1, AI-95 gasoline would be sold at TES and ATAN gas stations for no more than 100 rubles per liter. However, as early as this morning, Crimeans reported fuel shortages and long lines at gas stations.

The day before, Aksyonov stated that starting at 9:00 a.m. on September 1, TES and ATAN gas stations would receive significantly larger volumes of AI-95 gasoline, and its price on the price boards would not exceed 100 rubles per liter. He also assured that the fuel shortage situation would improve.

However, judging by reports from residents of occupied Crimea, they have not seen the promised improvement.

In particular, a resident of Armiansk reported that there was “absolutely no” gasoline at the ATAN station. According to him, he stood in line from 8:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., after which he left because gas station employees said there was no gasoline and there wouldn’t be any.

Residents of Krasnoperekopsk also reported that gas stations have neither AI-95 nor AI-92. In Alushta, according to a local resident, gas at ATAN is dispensed only with coupons issued by the city administration.

In Dzhankoy, the situation looks even more absurd: a local resident stated that the gas station’s display shows a price of 100 rubles per liter, but at the register, they’re actually charging 200 rubles.

Other commenters also report a lack of gasoline at TES and ATAN gas stations. One of them told Aksyonov directly that his unfulfilled promises only “discredit him in the eyes of Crimeans.”

Thus, on the very first day following Aksyonov’s high-profile announcement about lowering prices and increasing gasoline supplies, Crimeans are reporting new lines, fuel shortages, ration coupons, and discrepancies between advertised and actual prices.

Aksyonov had previously acknowledged that AI-92 gasoline and diesel fuel would remain in short supply for some time, but regarding AI-95, he stated that it would be available at a price no higher than 100 rubles.
