The land for the resettlement town in Mykolaiv was transferred to the Department of Housing and Public Utilities

The Mykolaiv City Council approved the allocation of a plot of land in the Korabelny District for the installation of modular homes for internally displaced persons. 

The council members adopted the corresponding resolution during a session broadcast by Intent.

The Department of Housing and Public Utilities received permission to use the land. Twenty-eight council members—all those who participated in the online meeting—voted in favor of this decision. Earlier, a proposal had been made to transfer the plot to the municipal enterprise “Sviy Dim,” but this proposal was rejected.

Mayor Oleksandr Senkevych noted that Mykolaiv has taken in a large number of displaced persons, primarily from the Kherson region and frontline communities in the Mykolaiv region.

According to him, finding rental housing in the city is currently very difficult, so the modular housing project should help partially solve the problem.

During the discussion, Councilwoman Mazanko asked whether the city has its own programs for building or providing housing for displaced persons. Senkevych replied that due to a lack of funds, there are currently no such programs, and city authorities are forced to rely on state and international projects.

According to the mayor, installing modular homes does not require funding from the city budget; the community only needs to provide a plot of land.

Intent has previously reported that during a meeting of the city council’s standing committee on ecology and natural resource use, council members considered allocating land plots to the municipalenterprise “Sviy Dim.”

At that time, council members questioned the city’s readiness to provide the modular homes for IDPs with the necessary utilities—there are no funds to connect water and sewer services.

On July 31, the city council once again rejected the allocation of this same plot of land, as the plan at that time was to grant permission to the “Sviy Dim” municipal enterprise. Following this, the project was revised, and the recipient of the plot of land was changed to the Department of Housing and Public Utilities.
