The Kinburn Spit became a trap for the Russian army

Russian invaders on the Kinburn Spit are on the defensive and are under constant fire from the Ukrainian Defense Forces; despite this, they are trying to hold their positions at any cost.

This was stated in an interview with “Krym.Realii” by Denis Nosikov, commander of the “Odessa” operational-tactical group.

According to the commander, the Russians are bringing in reinforcements to the spit from the Melitopol direction, and these reinforcements suffer casualties at the hands of the Ukrainian Defense Forces every time. Nevertheless, the enemy is trying to hold its ground on the peninsula.

“No one will allow them to retreat any further, neither to the right nor to the left. This is the gateway to the Kherson region,” Nosikov explained.

The Kinburn Spit allows the Russians to shell the southern coast of the Mykolaiv region and is also key to controlling the Dnipro-Bug Estuary.

The commander noted that the distance from the spit to the Kherson region in the direction of Crimea is 40–50 kilometers—well within the range of even inexpensive attack drones.

“It’s the same logistics... So, of course, they will hold on to it at any cost, because it opens up a route, and the situation with Crimea will be very difficult,” he added.

Nosikov explained that Russian units have moved from their previous positions deeper into the Kinburn Peninsula and are trying to take advantage of any opportunity—including weather conditions—to bring in equipment.

“The day before yesterday, the weather was somewhat favorable, and they tried to bring in eight vehicles and hide them somehow, to bring in something so they’d have at least something. All eight vehicles were destroyed,” the commander said.

According to him, the occupiers are constantly fleeing their positions, and there have even been widespread instances of mass desertion.

“When they aren’t receiving ammunition, food, or water, and when they’re under constant fire, they run from one foxhole to another, watching those around them die constantly,” Nosikov noted.

The commander added that the Russians’ supply routes are constantly being mined, particularly with anti-personnel mines, so escaping from there isn’t always possible either.

“It’s all a kind of trap zone. There’s almost constant panic, almost constant orders to stay put and not run anywhere, to hold your ground, and so on,” the commander concluded.
