The so-called chief physician of the Golopristan Central District Hospital, which was seized by the Russians, was sentenced to 12 years in prison with confiscation of property. The prosecution proved that she voluntarily defected to the enemy and forced local medical workers to obtain Russian passports.

This is stated in the verdict of the Kherson City Court dated October 19.

The convicted woman was also ordered to pay nearly 9,000 hryvnias in costs for forensic examinations. Her sentence will begin on the date of her actual arrest.

The investigation established that in August 2022, a native of the Chelyabinsk region of the Russian Federation, who was residing in the Kherson region, voluntarily agreed to head the “Holoprystan Central District Hospital,” which had been illegally established by the occupiers. The case file states that the Russians did not exert any coercion or pressure on the convicted woman.

While in her leadership position, the woman organized the re-registration of the medical facility under Russian laws. She then assembled a staff, paid salaries in Russian rubles, and personally campaigned among medical personnel regarding the need to obtain Russian passports.

In court, the woman’s guilt was confirmed by written evidence, eyewitness testimony, and documents.

Since the defendant is in hiding in the temporarily occupied territory and has been placed on the wanted list, the trial was conducted in absentia under a special procedure.
